Running Through My Veins

I’m not the only one.

Many of you know me as a person who shows strength, courage, adventure and a passion for life.

In 2016 my veins were cursed with Lyme disease – a chronic illness that has made every day since like living with a monster inside of me.  Some people have walked parts of this journey with me, others have held my hand the whole way and many don’t know!

After completing the Sydney to Surf August 2016, the following days saw me bedridden for several days with incredible body pain, fever, intense headache, despair and a feeling of death.

Life continued with bad and better days. This infectious disease tortured me with up to 70 debilitating symptoms of varying pain, migration and duration. Loss of emotional stability, elevated liver enzymes, jaundice, extreme weight and muscle loss, weakness, fatigue, impaired vision, decreased brain function, memory loss, air hunger, chest pain, heart palpitations, hand and feet numbness are just to name a few.

This illness took my soul, withdrew me from society, inflicted anger and sadness on my family and manifested unanswered medical questions by doctors and hospital visits.

For 1 ½ years I researched my symptoms, looking for answers – consulting with doctors on a 2-week basis, neuropaths, listening to medical conferences and talking to other sufferers of chronic illness. My days were filled with overwhelm, exhaustion and tears of despair. How could I be so healthy one day and wake up the next not even able to hold my head on my shoulders?

Hours showered in tears, finding the strength to brush my teeth, rising from bed with a daily hangover headache (without drinking), battling with the daily tasks with torturing body aches, fatigue and NO answers.

In November 2017 blessed with the support from a local Lyme literate doctor, I was finally diagnosed, cared for and had a plan in place to gain health.  This passionate Doctor led me to a much more capable state, but as time went on the Lyme became resistant to the antibiotic treatment and my health declined.

I then turned to Buhner’s herbal protocol, once again improvements, but after some time symptoms returned.

In November 2018 I started an alternative treatment, ‘Beeing with Lyme.’ Bee venom therapy (BVT) has improved my life – more days are better than bad. I almost feel born to life again and moments take my breath away, I laugh more and I love endlessly this feeling of health. In the following August 2019 I began to run again, just small steps. There is quite often that moment when a tear will fall, but these are for joy, I’m back on the trail.

Over the next few months my health strengthened, distances became longer and the next thing this happened. I signed up for my first ever UTA50! (50 km race)

When I run it sometimes feels hard, but fighting Lyme is harder! This gives me the strength to keep running…………….

Today, in some ways I’m grateful for this journey. Turning 50 last month was a celebration.  I find love each day, have immense feelings of joy and I prioritise putting moments before chores.  And what really amazes me is the people I’ve met along the way and the support and kindness they have given me – for this I will always be thankful.

Whilst Lyme disease is not recognised in Australia, tick-borne illnesses are. All my blood tests were confirmed in Australia and some of them by testing that is covered by the Medicare rebate.  Lyme is Borrelia burgdorferi and I was tested and found positive for this.

I have now been treating myself with Bee Venom Therapy (BVT) for 1 year and 7 months.  Bee Venom therapy is not for the faint-hearted. It takes guts. My only regret is not starting it sooner! Today “I don’t look back, because I’m not going that way.”

If you would like to know more about BVT please join the ‘Healing Lyme with Bee Venom’ or ‘Bee Venom Therapy for Lyme Disease’ Facebook pages.  Nancy and Ellie host these Facebook pages,  giving you free in-depth information about the protocol. Plus, they are there daily to support you if needed.  Ellie has also just recently published a book which also holds all the protocol details and is available through Amazon.

If you’re looking for a hut to keep your bees, accessories and a supply of bees, please feel free to message me. I am happy to answer any questions you may have that relate to my journey with BVT.

For four years I have been fighting Lyme. Now Lyme fights me!
